Care of
your Saxophone Tutorial by Saxophonist Amonn AL-Mahrouq
|
- When you put your Saxophone
together, be careful not to place any part of the mechanism, especially
the crook under any pressure.
- When taking your Saxophone out of
the case, lift it very carefully by it's bell and neck with both hands.
- When you place the crook into the
Saxophone, twist it in, in one motion. Do not force the crook into the
neck. Lastly tighten the screw of the crook.
- Always clean and put your Saxophone
away after use
- Always clean out your mouthpiece.
This can be done by flushing it through with cold water, then drying it
with paper towel, inside and outside.
- When cleaning, avoid putting any
pressing on the pads – I use a pad saver but I never leave it
in my Saxophone for more than a few minutes, as this will place
moisture back onto the pads.
- If you want to clean the outside of
your Saxophone, always use a soft cloth.
- Always use a proper Saxophone stand.
- Always go to a qualified Saxophone
technician if you need to repair your instrument.
- Don’t play with any of
the keys or settings yourself.
- Never use metal polish on your
Saxophone
- Never try to oil your Saxophone
yourself, take it to your repairer.
- Always use a respected case for
your Saxophone.
- Always clean the neck of your
Saxophone - I use a neck saver.
- Always check your Saxophone before
concerts and exams.
