Adds more elegance to your pages.
You can make changes without the screen having to be re-drawn.
Add more complex code to your page, eg. Mouse rollovers.
Code can be used in all web-browsers.

JAVA

A computer programming language.
You can create sophisticated professional applications.
You can add a Java applet (pop-up) to your site. This might change the colour of text when your mouse passes over it or create a drop down menu etc.
Add variety to your site.
Difficult to master due as its complex.
Sometimes slow and incompatible with some web-browsers if not written properly.

Java Script

JSP

Stands for Java Server Pages.
Created as an alternative to Microsoft's (.Net)
Uses server side technology.
Extension to the Java Servlet technology developed by Sun Microsystems.
Dynamic Scripting - works with php code making your page more functional for the user.
JSP changes into Java Servlet before it is run. The change is performed the first time the page is run.
All pages have the extension (.jsp). JSP will work with all operating systems.

XML

Markup Language for documents containing structured information.
XML structured information contains both content (eg. Words, pictures) and an indication of what role this content plays.
All documents have structure.
Markup Language is a way of identifying structures in any document.

Why should I use XML? - So richly structured documents can be used over the internet.

SGML - Standard Generalized Markup Language- Describes general structure of content inside documents.

PHP

If the file is phpL, it will look the same when the web browser receives it as it did before the server sent it. However, in ASP(X), there is one more step before the server sends the ASP/X to the browser - it runs all of the scripts on the page - ASP active Server Pages have the extension (.asp or .aspx).
