What is HTML?

  • An acronym for Hyper Text Markup Language.

All HTML Tags should be opened and closed correctly using "<" to open a tag and and "/>" to close the tag.

You must always close every tag you've opened, then you will be able to validate your page to the correct standard of html e.g html 4.01, xhtml, 1.1 etc.

Tags are important as:

  • They are the building blocks of the HTML language.
  • They define the presentation of your page.

The version after HTML version 4 is XHTML - This version came into being as people needed new ways to access the internet, for example via mobile phones and television sets, etc
